Welcome back to school for the summer term! We hope you had a refreshing break and are ready for an exciting final term of the academic year.The summer term is always a busy and rewarding time filled with key milestones, outdoor activities, and celebrations.

sWe have entered our final half term with our wonderful pupils.  It only seems like yesterday that we welcomed them at the start of September.  We have had a lot of super experiences with the class.  Over time they have formed some lovely relationships, and they have grown together academically and socially.  We endeavour to continue to help them to learn through play and to share special, exciting moments together.  

DON’T FORGET……

If your child has any medical appointments, please inform school in advance where possible – you MUST send a copy (either hard copy or a picture by email) of the appointment letter/card/text to school for our register.
If your child is absent due to illness, please telephone school before 8.00 am and leave a message. Your child will not be collected for school until you inform us that they are well enough to return.

PARENT REMINDER

Please can sun cream be applied to children during the summer months. It would also be useful to bring a sun hat in for playtimes and trips. During the summer months children can wear shorts, but they MUST be plain black/grey or school shorts – no sports motifs. 

CURRICULUM

This term, we will continue exploring our exciting Once Upon a Time topic with Miss Capstick. The children will enjoy discovering more stories and using their imaginations as we explore a magical fairytale world. There will be lots of opportunities for creative activities, role play and storytelling as we learn about different story characters, settings and events. We will also encourage the children to think creatively by predicting what might happen after a story ends.

Later in the term, the children will have the chance to create their own stories, developing their ideas for characters, adventures and magical worlds. They will bring their stories to life by making masks, puppets and props, before sharing and performing their creations with their friends.

Alongside this, our class will continue learning about the past with Mrs Mott. We will be exploring what life was like when we were born and how people change and grow over time. With Mrs Mott, the class will be exploring a book called Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge.  Wilfred is a boy who lives next door to a retirement home.  His favourite old person is 96-year-old Miss Nancy who has lost her memory.  The book explores themes of friendship, compassion and memory.  This links really well with our Memory Box topic.  As part of this topic, we will be sharing photographs and special objects to help us remember important family events such as weddings, christenings and other celebrations. We will spend time talking about our families and favourite memories, while also learning how to discuss people and pets who are no longer with us in a sensitive and thoughtful way.We will also continue learning about the days of the week, months of the year and the passing of time, helping the children develop their understanding of when events happen and, of course, how long they have to wait until their birthdays! The children will also enjoy exploring objects from the past and learning games, songs and dances that were popular many years ago.
Alongside our topic work, we will continue to practise phonics, handwriting/sentence formation and letter formation every day to support early reading and writing skills. In Maths, we will complete our learning on measurement before moving on to multiplication and division.

Our continuous provision activities will continue to run throughout the day and is carefully planned to support learning across all areas of the curriculum. These activities give children the opportunity to practise new skills, positively interact with their peers, follow their interests and develop their understanding through play and exploration.

CULTURAL CAPITAL

Before half term, the children visited Worden Park on the outskirts of Leyland.  The children had fun exploring the environment on a nature walk through the grounds. They found a lake with beautiful swans and ducks.  To round the trip off, and to run off some end of term energy, they went to play on the fantastic playpark. 
                   
Our Cultural Capital Trip for this term will be an exciting outdoor adventure to Waddecar. There are lots of different activities on offer at Waddecar which will allow the children to develop their gross motor skills and work as a team. We are hoping to engage in some canoeing which means there is the potential that the children may get a bit (or very) wet depending on their canoeing skills! 

It is important that the children are dressed appropriately for the day and arrive at school with a full change of clothes which is appropriate for the activity (change of underwear and socks should be packed too). They should also bring trainers to wear for the activity which are suitable for getting dirty and wet. Wellies are not appropriate as they will fill with water. Suncream should be applied in the morning before arriving at school.
